The fatal flaw at the heart of most libertarian ideas is that it confers an enormous advantage to those who game the system. Which, by the way, is one reason why Marxism is fatally flawed. Most people are trustworthy and aren't looking to cheat the system, whatever that system might be. However, you have those who aren't so high minded. And simplified systems like libertarians espouse just don't have the robustness to cope.

Don't you think the true fatal flaw with Marxism is that he underestimated people's need to own their 'own' things......that owning things jointly like in a co-op as opposed to a condo just doesn't cut it?

CJ, > The fatal flaw at the heart of most libertarian ideas is that it confers an enormous advantage to those who game the system.

You can say the exact same thing about every form of man-made government, especially those that try to supplant free-market economics in the name of egalitarianism.

One problem with libertarianism is that there is no consensus among libertarians with regard to just how far government minimalism should be taken. Not even those with good intentions can agree, and it only gets worse when you mix in the "sociopaths," the opportunists, etc.

But from my point-of-view, I see many people claiming to be social liberals but fiscal conservatives. If anything, that tells me they are libertarians, though one might expect that from those who have nothing to gain from government entitlement programs or "morality" legislation.
