"I just thought it necessary, as you are prone to do, to point out the obvious; it seemed you weren't getting it."

I got it. But, the seeds of the destruction of an empire are planted early. Now, the seeds of the downfall of the USSR was planted pretty early. Marxism requires a pretty efficient society. Much like their libertarian analogs. However, the timing of the collapse of the Soviet Union had an awful to do with their overcommitments. They gambled and they lost. Now, they gambled because they had no choice. Their backs were to the wall. An empire, ruled by intelligent people don't gamble. Because gambling is a luxury in an empire.

Under Smirk, your hero, we are rolling the dice. We shouldn't be here, but we are. The Roman Empire suffered under many bad emperors before they succumbed. We have had only a few before we reached our crisis. The only way your team can score a win is if you have a Nehemiah Scudder in the wings. And that is debatable if that is an actual win.

You probably would count Scudder as a win. Because, you know, he isn't a liberal.

Cater was amazingly far sighted, luring the Soviets into Afghanistan with his feigned, "weakness"! Ronnie Ray Gun should thank him - he took ALL the credit..
