Zeus,

I think we've discussed this enough already.

They need to improve the thoroughness of their backround and psychological checks on potential priests to raise the standards and make sure they they don't get any people that have psychological problems or confused ideas about their sexuality.

They need to get rid of anyone (priest, bishop, or cardinal) where there is reasonable evidence of abuse and turn them over to law enforcement.

They need to upgrade the quality of the legal, medical, and practical advice they get on how to deal with priests that have problems like this. That was one of the problems. For decades they were getting advice on sexual matters from people that knew less than nothing about this kind of behavior.

It's going to take some time and will require seperating the sick people, from the bad people, from the people that got bad advice, and then handling each in the appropriate way. I don't think a witch hunt and burning at the stake of everyone that made a mistake is the correct approach.

Joseph? Hmmmm. 1. Married a much younger pregnant girl. 2. Stepfather to Jesus.
3. Never mentioned in the Bible once Jesus's ministry started. Assumed dead.
4. May be the father of Jesus's brothers and sisters, though that is not certain. If Joseph died before Mary had one of his children, his brother would marry her (assuming he's not already married) to produce an heir for his name. This policy didn't work well for Judah and Tamara, foreparents of David and Jesus.
5. In the second to last book in the New Testament, Jude never identifies himself as the son of Joseph, but only as the brother of James. James and Jude (or Judas, not Iscariot) may be full brothers, Jesus a half brother.
6. Catholics identify Jesus's brothers and sisters as "cousins", much as Pope Alexander identified Cesare and Lucretia Borgia as nephew and niece. <G> However, Luke calls James "the brother of the Lord." So does Paul, several times. And other gospel writers identify James, Simon, Jude and Joseph (not Mary's husband) as brothers of Jesus. But Catholics don't like that part of The Bible. Josephus, non Christian and Jewish traitor, (but a great historian) calls James the brother of Jesus and the leader of the Christian Church, after the crucifixion of Jesus. Josephus doesn't really have a dog in this argument.
7. Joseph is mainly a man of mystery.
8. There are too many people with the same name in The New Testament. The Marys alone can drive you nuts.
