JF, > The only models I see working are the Euro system that deliver well and cost 1/2. With millions of boomers retiring, we have to get the cost down... NOW.

I don't see the costs coming down anytime soon, especially not with universal health care.

Most likely the costs will be passed onto someone else, i.e. those who can "afford" it. Watch Big Pharma get it in the shorts first. Maybe that's a good thing given what they do to protect their profit margins, but the baby is likely going to be thrown out with the bath water.

There are a lot of other points we could discuss, but I for one am glad I'm not in the health care industry. And to think that my parents tried to push me toward med school because doctors make so much money, LOL ...

You can easily get the cost down by merely cutting the quality of the health care. The reason we have the best health care in the world is that we spend more on it than anyone else.

Why do we do that? Because we value human life sufficiently that we (e.g., Medicare) will pay $6,000 per infusion for a chemo drug (or drugs) that may prolong someones life.

In addition, we subsidize the same drugs sold for less money worldwide, which we shouldn't be doing.

"because no one is calling for universal auto or home insurance"

Every state I've lived in has mandatory auto insurance. Everyone with a mortgage or HELOC has to have home ins. Not so in Arkansas?
