"You mean the Soviet union had free trade unions?" Brumar, you are the one who claimed they outlawed them. They didn't. "You don't consider the destruction of international finance socialist?" Did the do that? "It built war material because they were at war. But the factory was for making Volkswagens and produced some." In 4 years they managed to give Hitler one. Hitler knew that Germany was going to war. So he just happens to build a huge vehicle assembly plant right before he goes to war... "I think we're forgetting that I mentioned the nationalization of Thyssen as an example of Nazi control." I haven't forgotten. That isn't a sign of anything but the fact that the owner got in trouble with Hitler. Crossing a dictator means things like that happen. It doesn't make the dictator a socialist, just vindictive.

Message 23826713 I remember when I was a kid listening to shortwave radio. There was the "North American Service" of Radio Moscow that would come on at night with American music. I don't remember what was going on in the US at the time, but the commentators would take every opportunity to mention how great the Soviet Union was. No riots, workers were happy and never go on strike, free health care, etc. I'm sure the American lefties of that period are no different than the "America sucks" internet lefties of today.
