Better question is whether the government has ever shown the capablity to run a bureacracy effectively? Hell, look at the US military, not to mention the VA. Universal health care is one thing theory and quite another in practice. In this case, might the cure be worst than the disease. I wonder.

"I guess you are one of those "elites" everybody is talking about being out of touch."

Pretty much. I know a lot of people where $5k would push them under. Many in this area fit that bill.

Um, you may not be aware of this, but people have other debt as well! David there a lot of working poor out there and an incremental $5K might as well be a $1Million. I guess you are one of those "elites" everybody is talking about being out of touch.

Hey, I know what it is to live comfortably but I also know what it is to be broke. And during the "broke" period, not one family member did without health insurance nor was any without medical attention when it was needed. We did without a lot of other stuff, but you simply priority medical care to where it needs to be and cut back on the crap.

Nobody on this thread has said that people ought to have to go without health care. Not me, not any other conservative that I've seen. But some of us think it is insane to discard a well-functioning system for no reason at all -- other than to give the Dems an issue to run a campaign on.
