Our drug laws are absolutely ridiculous.

The question that bugs is:

Are the legislators who wrote the drug laws really that irrational, or is there method to their madness?

I see no comfort in either possibility.

My sister's son has an adopted daughter by second marriage. Jill has had problems of unknown origin which have resulted in two children out of wedlock and drug use.. She is a beautiful gal but at 27 years has not FOUND HERSELF. She was charged
with drug possession as well as selling and was given a 3 year sentence.. She served half of this time and was put on probation in a drug rehab. facility. She got mixed up with a boy in the program and was put in jail again.

All in all she has spent almost three years in jail as she had to wait for a bed in the rehab center. Now a harsh judge threw the book at her and she is off to a Federal prison
for another year. Her two children are being cared for by her mother and my nephew. What would have happened to them if they did not have grand parents. Further this girl needs help..and a Federal prison will really warp her I believe.

Her mother does not want to give up possession of the kids as she is attached to them as they to her. AND what will Jill do when she gets out of jail. What is she suited to do.. She has received no training at all in prison and did not even have work. She was in cell 23 hours a day.

My nephew went to her latest appearance before what is known as a hanging judge who gave a young man 6 years in a Federal prison for drug sales. This I believe to be harsh. Mark said persons came to speak for him, minister, teachers and when the sentence was announced people cried. Mark said it was hard to believe that he got that long a sentence.

The whole system is sad.. There are a lot of lost souls. Of course if we lived in a Muslim country they might have been even more strict. I am reading a great book by an Iranian
woman and she describes the punishments for women as well as
the Iranian society as the Khomeini came to power.
