I think the flag pin mentality has about run its course.....average Americans are feeling the current economic downturn too strongly to focus on such things. The price of fuel and its impact on food prices is a very real concern, as are the numerous economic challenge you point out. People are not secure and once the Presidential nominees are determined the focus will shift to what has to be done rather than what has not been done....

And the response to the ABC debate of last week shows that flag pins and who you served with on a charitable board is losing whatever impact it had. Some of the Bill O'Reilly viewers will focus on flag pins and some of the Daily Kos readers will focus on support for Mr. Bush's war tactics.

But for the great majority of Americans it will be the economy. The wallet will rule in November.
