It doesn't matter whether they didn't do anything that you regard as "socialist." That's just another form of the argument, "Socialism never really was tried."

Regardless, the fact is that they truly thought of themselves as socialists. They didn't rise to power telling themselves, "You know I'm a conservative, I know you're a conservative, but let's just tell the people that we're socialists, heh heh heh."

Everything they said and did reflected a conviction of ideology.
