Certain countries in Africa are very rich in natural resources. Congo has huge deposits of copper and cobalt which the Chinese bought for a fraction of the market price reaping a discount for tens of billion of USD.

Same with agri products most recently sugar from sugar cane which they buy for a fraction of market prices. The scheme is as follow – China offers to build roads schools hospitals etc. and of course to develop the mines for a tidy profit charging huge interest and fees for the credit given until the African Nation start to pay back with raw material. IN summary China buys the stuff around 30% to 50% of the actual price if profits where reasonable and interest rates at market prices.

.... and by the way did I mentioned the heavy bribes paid to local officials ???

As a side comment I know also about several despicable Israelis who are also very active in Africa and make a fortune.

Personally few months ago I meet one of the V. Presidents of Nigeria and understood how you can make a fortune there - but I decided to stay away for the time being.
