I agree about Sanders talk. I gather that gets him elected. As I recall, he's been quite clear in the past but I forget just where it changed. I've just always believed, since kept the label, that he kept the idea, somewhere in the recesses of his mind.

you can understand why folks might confuse your basic liberal big welfare government with socialism

Interesting choice of words. We really don't have a "big" welfare government when compared to the rest of the industrialized world. We do have a huge government but most of that cost gets gobbled up with corporate welfare such as the military complex and farm subsidies.
