Kate asked me if he was bellicose. Granted that question conflates a lot of things but my thoughts immediately went to the famous Albright/Powell quote in which she asked him what all the soldiers were for if he was against using them in the Balkans or some such. In that exchange, it's clear who was bellicose. So I guess the question is whether Holbrooke was quicker to the military trigger than, say, the Clinton foreign policy folk who are now working in the Obama campaign. If that's an answerable question.
