Note todays NYT major story about olmert and assad dance now underway. if and its a big IF, a deal over golan is struck, syria moves to a more neutral position in sunni/shiaa fight. Folks like hamas and hizbolla have to begin to envision a world in which supplies are not so easily attainable and so on. Can arabs be rejectionists forever? No. Does that mean something will happen soon. No. Does a real peace with syria and deals with the assads in the past have been upheld, augur bad things for israel---nope but they may just stop the run hizbo and hamas have had. IF hamas offers a ten year Hudna, and supply of new weapons can be controlled, that works for israel. Is hamas offering that. Probably not. Are they offering something to fool israel with. Perhaps. Can israel trust but verify with a little help from its friends...Maybe..

"All Carter has done is help legitimize Hamas"

Hamas was "legitimized" when the people of Gaza elected them democratically.
