It would have to be in the ingredients..for instance, if you used oatmeal...Just one thought. This recipe calls for corn flakes.

CHICAGO CRUNCHY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
3 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. vegetable oil
1 c. Corn Flakes, crushed
1 c. quick oats
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Sift flour, baking soda and salt onto wax paper. Preheat oven to moderate (350 degrees). Beat butter, butter, brown and granulated sugars, egg, milk and vanilla in bowl until well blended. Stir in flour mixture alternately with oil until mixture is thoroughly mixed. Stir in Corn Flakes, oats and chocolate. Drop by heaping teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheets, 2 inches apart. Bake in a preheated moderate over (350 degrees) for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Makes about 96 cookies at 5 cents each.

Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies

These crunchy chocolate chip cookies, made with crispy rice cereal, are great
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups crisp rice cereal
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
PREPARATION:
Heat oven to 350°F.
Cream shortening, sugar, brown sugar and milk in large bowl at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Add flour, baking soda and salt.

Mix until blended. Stir in cereal and cereal. Drop by large teaspoonsfuls on greased baking sheet.
Bake for 9 minutes.
Cool on a rack.

I'm guessing but I think they have more shortening in them. I might be wrong though, so hopefully others will answer too.

BTW if you want a soft easy to make cookie; here's a recipe for cake mix cookies.
