<<< But my guess is that NC is very much in play in the fall.>>>

NC has never voted dem as far as I know. Clinton almost won in 1992 only because Ross Perot took nearly 15% of the votes that would most likely have gone to Bush. In any case Bush won narrowly in 1992. Kerry/Edwards lost in Edwards home state in 2000.

Right now, if I started stacking up the states, I would put NC as definitely a swing state, but leaning Dem.

I suppose that this election will be very different than the ones we have seen in 2000 and 2004. It would be the revival of true democracy, I would think.

The evangelicals will not be motivated to come to the polls in such large numbers as in 2000 and 2004. The kitchen table issues will mobilize a lot of middle-aged folks to the polls. The deteriorating health care system and SS will bring the seniors and most importantly, the 20 year olds will flock to the polls if a young candidate like Barack Obama is a candidate.

The politics of fear such as this one; Message 24528576, which shockingly has crept to this thread, will never fly anymore with the American public.
