>>Not throwing a candy wrapper from the car given the masses of litter is not the same as running out and buying a car given the masses of pollution. Not driving when you can walk would be the equivalent of not tossing the candy wrapper.<<

Karen -

So the amount of pollution I don't create when I walk somewhere instead of driving makes a difference, but buying a car that pollutes far less every time I do drive it doesn't? I'd say the candy wrapper analogy fits in either case.

I mean, if I'm going to go out and buy a new car anyway it does. I suppose if the choice is between keeping my current car and buying a Prius, you might have a point.

My next car will most likely be a hybrid, in any case.
