One thing is certain and that is that SSI for self employed people paying the max is a gouge. They pay almost 20K a year for benefits of far less than that and the rate rises yearly.
Unless you want to work until you are over 70, but then the likely total return by death is still far less than contributed.

I believe that the absolute profits can and should be limited, on a sliding scale. Either the government takes it, or forces them to invest in alternate energy, solar, etc.

Deregulation is the worst we can do. We in CA got screwed by it, others have been screwed, it doesn't work. Corporations act in their own best interest, and individuals seem to justify wholly unethical acts through rationalization of doing it 'for their shareholders'.
