China has been more or less stable for millenia. Most Jews haven't been so lucky. Not only was the original Israel in an area that still isn't stable, they got kicked out in two waves.

This is really the point. Israel had no stable homeland. The reason their growth was stymied -- literally stopped for all these years -- is that there was no stable place that WAS Israel.

The reason this is a significant point in the context of the argument we were having is that the lack of any homeland has effectively kept Israel held down for centuries.

When people start talking about Israel having "taken" Palestine, it is necessary to consider what these hundreds, thousands of years have done to the Jews who have been in out of these lands over all these years.

It is easy for us to look at the plight of the Palestinians over the last 60 years and and forget that Israel has been dealing with having their homelands taken for many, many centuries. Why is the plight of the Palestinians any worse than the plight of the Jews? Yet, the Left tolerates, even embraces, the Palestinians targeting innocent Jewish children with suicide bombings and other terrorist acts.

It really makes no sense. There was a time when I was pretty extreme as a liberal - at least as much so as Z -- but I would NEVER have understood how someone could condone the actions of the Palestinians. It is beyond me how a liberal can believe the behavior is acceptable.
