Our country deals with governments. It is true that in certain instances the people don't want us there but the government does. But we don't deal with "the people". We must deal with the government.

There are certainly places where bases are not popular with the people, but the host government understands the need for us to be there. I never suggested otherwise.

As to Gitmo, American leases the land under a perpetual lease for about $5,000/month and have done so for many years. This base is of strategic importance to the United States.

In the case of Gitmo, I will agree this is one exception where the host would like us to leave. But we have the lease, pay the bill, and we aren't there to protect Cuba, we are there to protect the United States. There is no way in hell the US would give up that base, nor should they.

Are you suggesting that the US should walk away from Gitmo?
