Karen -

His goal was largely to try to explain a part of that so-called "black american narrative" to a predominately white audience. Thus, he spent more time talking about that.

But I still fundamentally disagree with the notion that a candidate has to choose either a black narrative or a white one, even if we postulate that such things exist.
