Quehebo -

Apparently, we can do little besides disagreeing.

For one thing, I would not lump all environmentalists together as you do. It seems biased and simplistic to do so, not to mention being contrary to ample observable evidence.

I am happy with the state of California's economy, and with the level of environmental regulation here. I think Arnold has done a great job in that regard. He would disagree with you that there has been a negative economic impact from environmental regulation.

Furthermore, our high energy prices are still at least partially a legacy of some very foolish deregulation of the utilities here, coupled with the market manipulations of Enron. Perhaps you weren't aware of that history.

I think environmentalists are not very pragmatic regarding energy.

I think that's way too broad. That category contains everything from preservationists and conservationists to twinkie-brained tree huggers. I spent a dozen years at EPA. If that doesn't give you a sense of what environmentalists are and aren't, I don't know what does. There are plenty of pragmatists. As in most interest groups, the loudest and the shrillest get quoted.
