Do you really imagine that there are a bunch of people making a killing by being environmentalists?

I didn't say anything about making a killing. I said "professional environmentalists."

All interest groups produce industries. There are institutions, jobs, conferences, departments in colleges, certification programs, honors. Look at what the women's movement, for example, has produced. Wright, for example, is a "professional black." He's also a preacher, but most professional whatevers would not have careers without the industry that their activism created. So when someone proposes building, for example, more nuclear plants, the industry goes into battle. It protects itself. Not necessarily in a conscious or mercenary way, maybe a combination of advocacy and inertia.

That's what I was referencing. The "killing" is no more than a surge of donations to the Sierra Club many times over.
