In fact you chose Austin TX as one of your examples of liberalism. Yes, there are plenty of liberals in Austin, nevertheless, its a small liberal ghetto in a more conservative state.

Large universities breed liberalism. I think it is because none of the people living in these places has any responsibility -- professors with tenure can do or say anything, and students only have to make a decent grade. They don't have to worry, for the most part, about making a living.

A lot of liberals get more conservative when they start having to pay their own bills and to be responsible for their actions.

And its probably one of the most prosperous/desirable cities in TX.
