Don't be silly. If you have a better solution to chronic federal bloat and over-spending to propose then: propose away! Or... if you would like to statistically examine the budgetary histories of US State's which HAVE planks in their State constitutions mandating balanced budgets, vs. the budgetary history of States which ARE NOT similarly constrained by constitutional prohibitions against deficit spending, (somewhat similar situations to the proposal for a US Constitutional amendment), then have at that also! But... if you've got nothing better to suggest for a structural repair, and you have no desire to examine the 'comparables', then I think it's time that you EMBRACED YOUR INNER BIG GOVERNMENT DEFICIT SPENDER, Tim! ('Cause --- willing to admit it or no --- in comparison to supporters of the Balanced Budget Amendment, that's exactly what you are!) (My guess is that there must be some Big Government spending programs that you, in your heart-of-hearts, are most desirous of never subjecting to a budgetary scalpel... SOME vestige of Big Government that you value in toto OVER parsimony and fiscal discipline.... And that is what keeps you in the 'government is forever allowed to run-up deficits and devalue their currency' camp. :-(
