I have no disagreement with what you are saying, however my read of the big picture, fwiw, is what helped us out in the 80 - 90's is the great advent of semiconductor based computing, and later - the Internet. We were in a leadership position during that period, and we did well.

The problem is - what if this time around there will not be a Big New Thing? Or, if it does appear, what if we will not be the leaders? Regrettably, past performance does not guarantee future results.

Debasement of the currency may prove to be a very serious issue. I think we would be better off facing a period of recession and of sorting things out and working out problems -- rather than mailing out more (borrowed) helicopter money. However, doing that would take having principles and/or balls. Our current political and economic leadership does not have either.
