Wow, Chris, sorry to hear that. : ( I guess the most important thing is that whatever it is doesn't affect him long-term and restrict him from fun activities for the rest of this life. I know the disappointment is probably more difficult to cope with than the injury right now, but as long as he has a full recovery, things will be ok. I'll cross my fingers and toes that it isn't anything major.

Break out the Neil Young. He'll help. Always does.

In case you haven't heard...

I'm sorry to hear that as well. That's so sad for Sean, who has fought so hard and come so far. In the end, adversity is a great character builder; not that he needs it, but I think when people are faced with unexpected challenges it forces them to stretch even more than they otherwise might. I realize this is small consolation to seeing his career possibly end this way.

You have every reason to have your buttons popping off your chest both for your son, and for yourself, as there can be no doubt about the influence you have had on him over the years.

As Caly says, I hope there's nothing more serious than missing the rest of this season, as unfortunate as that is.

Max

That's a sad story, Chris, and I feel for both of you.

On the other hand, Sean is young and he's about to go off to college. I remember my oldest daughter trudging off to her first year in college with a broken heart. Right after her high school graduation, her sweetheart of two years broke up with her and she just moped around all summer. Two months after she was on her own in her new college environment I doubt she remembered his name. I know boyfriends come and go while baseball is forever, but my daughter's played romance like it's the only sport in town, and she's a champ.

The word 'scrappy' really stuck out when I read your note a second time, Chris. It reminded me of my dad, who I love and miss, as he was a sports star in his day and would comment to me, when growing up, on what makes a great athlete. I specifically recall 'scrappy' being one of the most important attributes he would often mention. He was referring to a high school football running back, but it equally applies to a star pitcher. In any event, hope all is well with you & Sean.

Max

He stepped up when they really needed him. After years of being small, quiet, and scrappy he was the go to guy on a great team.>/i>
