Republicans don't like regulation and general governmental interference. I think it's hard to run a system that you don't like in the first place. They end up using it for personal gains rather than for the general good of the country.

I personally believe more in the moving it up syndrome rather than trickle down. If the little guys are fat and happy they will spend more so everyone benefits. More goods and services are being used and more jobs are created to take care of that increased market. It's a win/ win for rich and poor alike.

I don't like academics for government jobs...............they tend not to relate to the real world as well as people who have been forced into more accountability..

I offer Condi Rice as an example.....................smart woman but ineffectual as Sec of State. The hard ball politics of the corporate world better prepare people for high level gov't.........JMHO.

>>Democrats usually do a better job of governing

I used to think that, too. (I used to think it was because the Ds brought in more academics.) I recall as a civil servant looking forward to changes to a D administration in the places where I worked. I recall telling people that they would be better. But events proved me wrong and I stopped making that claim.<<

Karen -

I think saying that one party is better than another at governing is too broad a generalization to be meaningful.

One could point out that the Bush Administration has been an absolute disaster on many fronts, but it wouldn't be fair to extrapolate that to mean that Republicans are incapable of governing well. I think it's more about the specific individuals at the top.
