I'm amused and perplexed by any of these preachers who presume to speak for God. They don't realize that actually they're violating the commandment 'Thou shall not use the Lord's name in vain'.

People assume that refers mainly to profanity but it has many interpretations. One being to not speak for the Lord or toss his name about lightly, i.e. in vain. Similar to that is vain as a derivation of vanity. So being so presumptuous as to speak for God is a form of vanity.

I have always tried to completely ignored those preachers, and others, who say things like:
"God wants us to ....."
"God did it because..."
"God told me to tell you that...."
"God did this in retribution for...."
"God hates [-----]......"
"God will ..... if we do ....[don't do]...."
etc.

It's all bs. Worse, if misused in a negative way, which is often the case, it is negative, unproductive bs and encourages hate, dissension, and polarization.

Not always successful, but I try and have the outgoing ear as wide open as the incoming one, with no trace of the bs left behind after it leaves.
