I am not so sure a "free and democratic" society is the utopia it is supposed to be. A few reasons:

1. Look at the greed, foolishness, and waste of the average American. McMansions and Big SUV's bought on credit?

2. Our education system is pathetic. Just look at our president. The "leader of the free world" doesn't even know how to pronounce nuclear.

3. ==>WE<== elected the current "leaders" who are causing this mess. We are responsible for what is happening yet few Americans will accept that responsibility.

4. The folks who control the media appear to believe most Americans have an IQ of about 80. Look at all the tripe that is on prime time TV. Maybe they are right?

Our forefathers knew that a democracy requires a knowledgeable and politically active populace. The current populace is neither. As proof I point out that we rallied strongly on that obviously bogus report Friday morning. How clueless can the investing public be to fall for a report that shows an increase in both construction and finance jobs?

People argue over whether or not Obama should have put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance. What's pathetic is that it was actually the national anthem and most people didn't know the difference.

We have people arguing that our kids should be taught Creationism in school, and people who see no problems with combining Church and State. Why don't we just go back to living in caves?

Most people have never read the Constitution. From his actions it is obvious Bush is one of them. I am not convinced Bush can even read.

Our Congress... I won't even start on that one.

People tend to be ideologically polarized into Republicans or Democrats. Each thinks the other sides candidates will ruin the country, never stopping to realize that their candidates will also ruin the country.

And the most pathetic statistic of all:

28% of Americans STILL think Bush is doing a good job! Almost one in three Americans are totally clueless about what is going on.

I hate to sound unpatriotic but what about American society is worth saving? I have been overseas and seen many countries that appear to have better governments than ours. People are smarter, better education systems, and health care system is much better.
