Al, > When, on the other hand, in the best judgment of a politician the logical and wise path forward coincides with the will of the majority, then it is not pandering....like removing ourselves militarily from the Iraqi quagmire for example.

Who gets to decide what is the "logical and wise path forward"? What qualifies them to make such decisions?

Hillary, for example, dismissed the view of economists who are against cutting gas taxes temporarily, calling them "elitists" in the process.

As for Iraq, remember that the majority was once in support of unilateral action.

Bottom line: How can we be sure that the "logical and wise path" is always followed even when it goes against the whims of public opinion?
