At this point, I have settled myself in the aisle between the parties with a bowl of popcorn. People seem puzzled that I can do that, given the dramatic difference between right and left, but there it is. There are things about each party that either appeal to my own personal beliefs, or that scare the crap out of me.

The only thing I knew going into this was that I did NOT want another CLinton WH. But I also don't want another neocon. I don't buy into the existential threat argument. And Obama brought with him, as you said, enthusiasm, the (now exhausted) word "change", and brilliant speaking, a real relief after the inarticulate Bush. He was against the war, which was no small thing for me, but I think he's smart enough to not leave willynilly, something I don't believe we can do. He learns quickly. So whether the reality of Obama as it is revealed through these months completely overrides the orginal hope he inspired remains to be seen. He is young, but no younger than some, and McCain is old, and that is worrisome- his choice of VPs will be important.

PRobably the things I like about McCain are the things you all don't :) I also don't believe our country will be destroyed by either H or O. Of course, I didn't think Bush could do as much damage as he has either. I continue to believe that America is stronger than that.
