I do agree that McCain’s choice of VP is going to be important. Do you think it will be a woman? One that actually is capable enough to take over if need be?

How about Libby Dole? Talk about a resume that makes Hillary's 'experience' look pale: en.wikipedia.org

I wouldn't say I see no threat, I would say not an existential one. I don't see sharia law, or terrorists, or even oil, bringing us to our knees. I don't believe that someone saying we will destroy America makes it happen. And I don't believe that 9-11 justified Iraq in any way. Going global, and into countries with different cultures and religions, some degree of hatred and opposition was inevitable, and that it would hit our shores eventually was inevitable, also. We have enemies, for sure.

I'm a fan of Unclewest's unconventional war ideas. Use special forces, don't commit all our resources as we have to a country that posed no immediate threat. Keep it quiet and dirty. I hate all these rules of engagement. To me, that's the equivalent of the formal duel of olden days. Only the other duelist isn't going to count ten steps before turning and firing. He'll just shoot you in the back.

That does not mean that I believe in officially sanctioned torture. We have to be careful in what we present, but to not take out Taliban leadership because they are at a funeral?
C'mon.

I realize I am letting it hang out in this post. The violent side of my Rambi character.

Gosh, I am sorry, but I think Bush managed to seem pretty illiterate without help. But the gravest damage, imo, was Iraq. Terrible decisions were made, the cost is enormous, way beyond what we were led to believe and there is no solution or end in sight. Some believe, like you, that it was and is worth it. Many others like me, didn't ever think it was, and a lot of people who first approved, no longer agree judging from the polls.

I do agree with you that it won't be possible to really assess how bad or how good this all was for many many years.
