I think people use the word differently. Multicultural as in melting pot is consensus good multicultural. Some other interpretations of it, say cultural relativism or accommodation, not universally popular.

My son who just few in from NY city this morning said one of the things he liked best about the city was the diversity. He said you could walk for blocks and not hear a person speak English. Depends how one looks at life I suppose.
