But don't assume he has a serious meaning or nuanced argument. He just likes to goof.

There's an underlying good point, though. I think "make money" is excellent advice. If you can make money doing something of value to you or to society, all the better.

Unfortunately some people will take it seriously. If his advice had been routinely followed most of our American "heroes"- in war and peace, would not have existed. There isn't anything more depleting to the wallet than dying for a cause and being unable to earn anything- plus the pay isn't usually very good for the occupations in which you die for your country. Seems to me that poses a logical conundrum for conservatives who might wish to champion O'Rourke's "advice".
