Both candidates have their bases within the Democratic Party and have had two years to build on those.

The test will be whether or not they jointly and individually can move from the liberal left to the center to convince Independents to support them.

It is not the math but Hillary herself that makes the Obama-Hillary ticket very beatable. Hillary has said that Obama is not ready to be President. Hillary has said that Obama failed to get the "mainstream" vote. And then is the Bill factor where Bill does not like Obama and Obama has skirted around the issue of acknowledging the merits of Bill's Presidency.

Furthermore. Bill has a lot of dealings with foreign money etc. and it is best to keep such issues out of the WH.
