Diversity is a subjective thing

When I was a kid, I lived in a "diverse" community. We had pockets of Italians, Slovaks, Irish, and Jews in approximately that order of occurrence. I also remember Dutch, Greek, Polish, Puerto Rican, black, and English on my street. I remember filling out a form when I entered either junior or senior high asking what nationality I was. I responded "Slovak." The teacher corrected me, told me I was American. The context for diversity was entirely different then. Now most of that list is lumped together. Times have changed.
