I don't believe there is any way to deliver on such a hypothetical promise.

Ultimately to get the nomination this year, McCain had to win a bunch of primary elections - all out in the open, honest elections, not rigged ones. And he did so. He wasn't my choice or yours, but the fact is a lot of people voted for him in the primaries. That's why he's got the nomination, not because someone promised it to him and gave it to him.
