BTW, we probably should interrupt this dialog with a recipe. Ever hear of baked flour? All you do is heat a cup or more of flour at the lowest setting on your oven - around 200F will do it - for a couple of hours. I stir it now and again and when it is light tan color, it is ready. Use it as a thickener for anything - gravy, puddings etc. You don't have to worry about it tasting pasty or uncooked because the baking took care of that. My grandson likes it for creamed chipped beef.

The longer you bake it, the nuttier it will taste. It is like a roux but without the fat.
