I think there is a big jump between

and

"I can call you an easily conned dipstick for still supporting Bush"

Both make it about the supporters as opposed to (or in addition to) the candidates, but the 2nd comment is nastier. Maybe if you dropped "dipstick" and just said something like "you have fallen for Bush's con job". One or two of MM's comments might be similar to that last one, but he's hardly the only one who has posted along those lines here without getting banned. (OTOH I think perhaps anyone throwing around comments like "your are an easily conned dipstick", would be likely to be banned or at least warned.)
