We moved to Atlanta about a year ago after having lived in Ohio for 17 years.

For me, the most interesting phrase that I hear all the time from people here is

"Bless his/her heart"

no matter what the problem is.

I don't know if it's particularly Texan or more southern in general, but "fixin' to" is one of the signature phrases for me.

I once had a boss lady who insisted that we not use "fixin to".

Honestly, I have two university degrees, but was nearly flummoxed in finding a suitable substitute.
