The enthusiasm Obama would create by picking a VP and others as a fresh start, compared to the price they would pay with undecided voters like you for going with Hillary, is considerable. My gut feeling is that he will go the fresh start route and not give in to political expediency.

I got an email today from a friend who was quite thrilled with the idea. I replied that I thought Clinton could get more mileage out of the Senate majority leader job. She has such a strong grasp of policy, it would be a shame to waste it.

I'm not sure, though, that she couldn't be a good justice. She would likely lose the partisanship when she put on the robe. Different role, and all that, and she has that perfectionism that would likely make her want to be the best justice she could be, not some hack.

I agree with you, though, on the inappropriateness of making such a deal.

>>What a horrible idea.
She is incredibly partisan, has no bench experience, and actually very little legal experience, and is hardly a ConLaw expert. It might make liberal hearts beat faster, but if I thought that deal had been made, I would vote conservative.<<

Rambi -

I'm with you. I don't think Clinton would make a good SC Justice.

. . . but if I thought that deal had been made, I would vote conservative.

We may yet cancel out one another's votes.-;)

On Clinton on the SC, I disagree. She campaigns as a partisan but has worked across the aisle as a senator; not having bench experience is not a necessary disqualifier; nor is being a constitutional law scholar.

Having said that, if I were in Obama's shoes and looking at the issue of possibly 3 SC appointees in the first term, I would like in other places for an appointee.
