With the small caveat that some biofuels can be derived from food oils that would otherwise go to waste, which means that not all biofuel is bad, I would say that it has become clear that relying on ethanol to fuel cars, especially if derived from corn, is a bad idea.

It seemed like it made sense, and the idea was supported by a lot of people. It still is supported by both Obama and McCain. Not to mention our current President.

Obviously, that's going to have to change.
