When I went to the video store the other day, I parked our Honda minivan next to a Toyota Prius with a couple of rather self-satisfied bumper stickers on it. Fortunately they controlled themselves and didn't key the Honda. :-/

We got the minivan because our Volvo wagon was on its last legs, and we needed a vehicle with more leg and head room (SUVs are the same as the wagon in that respect). It's our only vehicle, we work from home, and it's paid for. Down the road, if we still need a minivan when they come out, I'll be checking out the diesel minivan Honda's supposed to be making.

No doubt consumers will rethink the balance between size and fuel economy, but most Americans avoid overly small vehicles if at all possible.

Also, if a hybrid car driven by somebody talking on their cell phone runs into me (as I've seen happen to others in front of my very eyes), my Dodge RAM will sustain fixable damage, but the hybrid will be totaled.

Let's hope there are fewer of those accidents after July 1, when a ban on yakking on cell phones without hands free devices goes into effect.
