Actually it was all about self interest all along.. misguided perhaps..

What US should do in that whole region is to move away.. Stop funding, Israel, Egypt or who ever.. Set a deadline in Iraq and withdraw.. Turn the massive Embassy into a resort or something.. It will be sorted out eventually.. But of course that will never happen.. US will keep a military presence in Iraq for a long long time.. You can take it to the bank..

I'm not questioning that. And I'm certainly not proposing sticking around for the duration. I'm asserting that if and when we leave short of success, we need to recognize and accept that we will, indeed, be shirking our responsibility. Can't sugar coat it.
