Clinton wanted the vice presidency and Obama did not give it to her, it may piss off enough Clinton voters to make an Obama victory in November very narrow, or even throw the election to McCain.

I agree, there's a real danger of that. That might even be the real goal, not the vice presidency. Especially if Hillary makes a public issue of it after getting a firm "NO" through the back channels.

Those polls are all over the place. I've seen very recent national polls that put Obama well ahead of Clinton vs. McCain, and I've seen a few recent state polls that show Clinton ahead of Obama, but only in certain swing states.

Polls of that kind, this many months out, are not reliable predictors of election outcomes.
