About the same kind of threat we faced from folks like the Weathermen and the Black Panthers and the rioters in Watts and other cities in the '60's. A non-existential threat that is the product of trying to assimilate a large minority that feels persecuted or disenfranchised. Luckily for us here in the US our Islamic minorities are only about 2% (or less) of the population- so we have almost no problems. The Europeans, who have been more generous in allowing Muslims in to their country, will face more problems with integration, but I've no doubt integration will eventually occur.

What kind of "threat" do you think they face?

what kind of threat is being encountered now by Europe?

If that does, indeed, turn into an existential threat, they will have brought it on themselves by taking a multicultural rather than assimilation tack. Although multiculturalism makes a lot of noise here, the American tack is assimilationist.

In either case, armed attack is neither the problem nor the answer. It's not the kind of war in which a military is relevant.
