Imo arguing with them is an exercise in futility. They see rogue nations led by madmen where they want to see it ... if you start with the assumption that a nation's leaders are literally insane of course you arrive at some pretty wild conclusions. Their premise is that because of this insanity the leaders of Iran have no interest in preserving the lives of its citizens.

The basic reaction was that I just don't get it. It seems to be a faith-based argument; logic and reason are not allowed into the debate. Any of our Center Right brethren care to take a shot at this? (I know this thread can seem like the proverbial lion's den to y'all, and it takes a certain amount of courage to continue posting here, but I think the folks here would genuinely debate you if you would just clearly state your case, backing it up with quantifiable facts. Or if its a gut-feeling just say so.)

Lane, you can talk to arachnophobes until you turn blue and they still screech and run every time they see a little spider. You can talk all you want to "end of the world" survivalists about how unlikely that event is and they'll still keep stockpiling guns and supplies and marking the location of Mormon homes on their scribbled homemade maps. And then there are some people who can't love their team without bitterly hating the other team. I hope that helps. :) Ed
