I respectively disagree. Cocaine is apparently enjoying a resurgence, because the street price has fallen and it is more pure; therefore it has more of a kick.

My son tells me that he is aware of more people doing it. That means the younger generation, people in their 20's and 30's.

I think it is terribly addictive. I saw what it did to my generation. It worked its way into middle-class whites in the 70's. It took a huge step up when people "based" it. That's how Richard Pryor set himself afire.

In the early 70's, people even argued that it wasn't addictive. I remember an article in the NY Review of Books claiming that.

By the 80's cocaine had reached epidemic proportion and was ruining lives. "Basing" turned into "rock," and it destroyed the black community. it was cheap, plentiful and the high was intense. Good value for the money.

So many people were damaged by cocaine in the late 80's that it's use declined precipitously among educated whites. It is making a comeback among the young now.

Cocaine is deadly, because it is so addicting. You can make the argument that pot should be legalized, but not any of the opiates. If they're ever legalized, society will crash and burn.

I've gone from conservative to full-blown libertarian. If someone can remind me of the good/productive things our government does for us, then please go ahead...
