I would bet that a majority of people born after the 60s have at least tried it.

I became an adult in the 60s when various hallucinogens were very fashionable and never once touched marijuana or any other street drug.

I used my personal judgment, and Obama should have done likewise. Youngsters are watching. Bill Clinton's assertion that he didn't inhale is questionable at best, so I suppose Obama is right to question it.

Why can't we have leaders who 'just say no?' I don't admire irresponsible behavior unless it is completely and forthrightly repudiated. McCain and Bush both did that early on. Obama waits until he is called on it.

I bet almost all young men have drunk alcohol irresponsibly. That's far worse- especially if you're driving. Of all the gateway drugs I find alcohol the worst- and the easiest to get, and the one most people never apologize about abusing- since drinking is such a manly thing to do in our culture.

Crimes, abuse, violence, indiscriminate sex- all are facilitated by alcohol. Give me a nice quiet pot head any old day. It's absolutely criminal that our government has chosen to make a medicinal drug like pot illegal, especially when you consider it has chosen to allow alcohol to flow unrestricted. It's ridiculous. It's a waste of money on jails and police, a step closer to a fascist state with seizures or property, and the fact that the law is so stupid causes huge numbers of people to disregard the law, which probably increases disrespect for laws in general- not, imo, a good thing to encourage.

I want a rational adult drug policy, and I want it now. Let adults take what they want, and only incarcerate them if they break a law that makes sense- like driving under the influence.

The best bit about dope and Presidents is the scene from "Dick" when Kirsten Dienst's pal makes some 'brownies' for Dick Nixon; providing a lighter touch than the evasiveness that you described.
