Moose, when challenged on whether you've made mistakes, if you couldn't think of anything worse than having once defended yourself with a slingshot then you're either possessed of a poor memory or you've led a very cautious, very safe life.

For you to want that same "just say no" quality in a leader is, however, probably a poor judgement.

All or nothing people usually lack the ability to see beyond the rules, to think outside of the box, and to exercise judgement on the margins where the exercise of judgement is essential.

In addition such people often tend to be self righteous and unforgiving of the mistakes of others. That self righteousness is not conducive to leadership and it can be a very dangerous quality when possessed by the person in charge. You often see that in micro-managers, by-the-book lifer types and, of course, hall monitors.

In a real crisis I'd take a Winston Churchill every time. Ed
